Pet Selection
Canine:
Millions of dogs are brought to the shelters each year
because the lifestyle of the owner and the breed of dog are
mismatched. Selecting the perfect puppy or dog for your
household is extremely important. Dogs and owners should be
matched appropriately to satisfy each others needs. It is
important to choose your new dog with your family lifestyle
in mind. There are many things to consider before choosing
your new canine member, such as breed, size, sex, age,
grooming maintenance, energy level and personality.
Selecting a specific breed does not guarantee a particular
behavior, but choosing offspring from animals with desirable
temperaments does increase one's chances of getting the best
pet.
If you are interested in getting a new puppy, it is
important to choose one that is friendly, outgoing, and
curious. Puppies that are easily frightened or snarl at
people should be avoided by inexperienced families or those
with small children.
Older dogs make great family pets as well. The benefits of
bringing an older dog home, is that they already have their
size, personality, coat care and behaviors established.
Before you adopt an adult dog, it is important that you get
as much information about the dog's previous history as
possible. Their past may determine whether or not they may
experience medical or behavioral issues in the future. It is
important to know that "you can teach an old dog new
tricks".

Feline:
Many people have
discovered that cats make wonderful companions because of
their entertaining antics and affectionate behavior. They
also adapt to a variety of environments. There are various
different breeds of cats, all of which express different
characteristics. Some breeds tend to be more friendly,
outgoing, vocal and curious; while others are more placid,
and gentle.
When choosing a new kitten,
owners should select one that is friendly and gentle. Avoid
kittens that appear to be shy or aggressive. They may be
more challenging to raise.
If you are interested in
adopting an adult cat, it is important that you get the
cat’s previous history before bringing it home. Their past
may determine whether or not they may experience medical or
behavioral issues in the future.

Owning a pet can
be very rewarding; however there is a lot of responsibility
that comes with it. Plenty of love and affection, a healthy
diet and routine vaccinations are essential for maintaining
your pet’s overall health and well being. If you are
considering a new pet, CVS will help select the perfect
animal that you can build a compatible relationship with.
