Ultrasonography
Digital
Ultrasonography is a valuable tool in diagnosing and
evaluating injuries and illnesses in small animals. It
captures high resolution images by passing sound waves
through tissues to produce a picture. With this advanced
imaging technology, the ultrasound images can be manipulated
to provide greater detail and alternative views. It also
allows us to show images that are crystal clear and can be
downloaded to a CD, USB drive, or printed out as hard
copies. Video clips can also be recorded, exported or
printed for further consultation.
The Small Animal Probe is
utilized to view internal organs and soft tissues.
We are able to evaluate the following views:
Abdominal: views of
the intestines, spleen, liver, kidney, bladder stones, or to
determine pregnancy.
Chest: views the lungs
and heart to assess fluid caused by abscesses, pneumonia or
heart disease.
Doppler blood flow: to
and from an area of concern.
The objective of ultrasonic
evaluation is to characterize the morphological
characteristics of the soft tissue structures and bony
surfaces, to identify and monitor the soft tissue injuries.
The goal is to determine the size and shape (whiteness &
brightness) of the structure or fiber pattern. The findings
are carefully considered in comparison to the physical exam
and other diagnostic procedures.
