Complete Blood Cell Count (CBC)
Complete Blood Cell Counts
provide information concerning the various types of blood
cells. Red blood cells (RBC’s) carry oxygen to the tissue of
the body, while as white blood cells (WBC’s) function as the
body’s primary defense against infection. Platelets play a
major role in the blood clotting process.
 |
Fibrinogen
– Significant indicator of inflammation due to
chronic infections and various other causes.
|
 |
Hematocrit (HCT)
– Provides
information on the amount of red blood cells that
are present in the blood. It is useful in diagnosing
anemia. |
 |
Platelets
– They are an important indicator of the blood’s
clotting abilities as well as other various health
issues. |
 |
Red Blood Cells (RBC’s)
– The primary function of red blood cells is to
carry hemoglobin for the transport of oxygen.
Depending on the size and color of RBC’s, we are
able to determine if your pet may have liver
disease, vitamin B-12 and folic acid deficiencies,
or various forms of anemia.
|
 |
Total Protein (TP)
– Total protein concentrations are helpful in
determining an animal’s hydration status. They are
also useful in screening tests for patients that are
experiencing a buildup of fluid in their body,
weight loss, diarrhea, liver and kidney diseases,
and blood clotting issues.
|
 |
White Blood Cells (WBC)
– WBC’s have various functions. They control
inflammation and bacterial infections, provide
immunity and aid in the clotting of blood. They can
also indicate leukemia, and parasitic infections, as
well as excrete toxins from the body.
