Senior Equine Evaluations

When your horse starts to age there are many things that begin to breakdown just as in humans. All horses age differently and start developing problems at different ages. Often the first thing we notice with elderly horses is that they loose weight and muscle mass. This can be for many reasons, such as teeth issues, worm damage, or digestive problems. Older horses have a more difficult time fighting off infections as well. It is important to maintain their routine heath care. Call CVS, when you notice a change or health issues in your senior horse. Dr. Winter will examine him/her and discuss a care plan. He will advise you if changes should be made in your management.  A (CBC) complete blood count and (EQP) Equine profile panel may be recommended to evaluate organ functions. He will then call you with the test results and discuss further treatment if needed.
